Rep. Morrie Lanning

Rep. Morrie Lanning

Rep. Morrie Lanning (R-9A Moorhead) is the Chair of the bicameral Legislative Commission on Pensions and Retirement (LCPR).  Lanning is a fifth term legislator and former mayor of Moorhead. Sen. Julie Rosen (R-24 Fairmont) is Vice Chair. You can view all the members of the LCPR here.

Traditionally, all pension related bills go through the LCPR. That includes bills known as “constituent bills” that handle a variety of both housekeeping and plain old “fix-it” work that give people pensions who would otherwise not qualify. Some of these bills are tough cases that pull at your heart, others smell pretty bad.

Unfortunately, “constituent bills” are the only thing on the LCPR agenda right now. Lanning has made it clear that there will be no major reform this year but we are still hopeful that several bills might be heard either by the LCPR or at least in committee. Here is a link to pension related legislation.

Along with the GOP leadership, Lanning’s focus is on the Budget. And the LCPR formed late in the session. We hope to convince Lanning, Rosen, the Legislature and Gov. Dayton that getting pensions under control will ease budget and deficit problems. We are optimistic and will keep you posted.
