The Wall Street Journal this morning hails the Tea Party for changing course from increases in taxes and spending to tax cuts and spending control. While the numbers achieved for the remaining 6 months of 2011 are modest (shrinks spending by less than 2%), the deal reverses a spending orgy that started under President Bush and escalated under President Obama and the Pelosi Reid Congress. The House exercised its power over the purse last week. Mr. Obama would rather be talking about how much to spend—oops, I mean, “invest.”  Instead, even Obama is talking about how much to cut–even from entitlements, though like our Governor Dayton and his public union allies, he continues to chant “tax the rich” even though the chant makes more political than economic sense. Still that is progress as we turn to the budget for 2012 and beyond.
