Minnesota, which started the charter school movement, was recently recognized by the National Association of Charter School Authorizers. The association awarded the Minnesota Department of Education $50,000, which the department will use to develop a strategic plan for growing and strengthening a strong charter-school sector through sound policy.

The grants are awarded on a competitive basis. Earlier this year, the association awarded $124,830 to Minneapolis Public Schools (“to grow a significant portfolio of charter schools”) and $113,000 to the Friends of Education/Volunteers of America (looks like a partnership) for the development of a new accountability system.

Congratulations to all of Minnesota’s charter-school winners!
